DING Dawei is a curator, writer, and producer. His work spans documentary form, archival practice, experimental cinema, and video installation. He examines how images are produced, circulated, and made experiential through viewing apparatuses and infrastructural conditions—from the archive’s media materiality and institutional techniques to the visibility regimes, protocols, and formats that govern circulation, and the ongoing reconfiguration of “materials–narrative–perception.” In 2017, he founded the Beijing International Short Film Festival (BISFF) and has served as its Festival Director ever since. He works regularly with museums and art institutions, curating time-based media exhibitions and screening programs. His writing has appeared in more than 50 outlets, including The Paper, LEAP, and World Cinema, and he is a member of L’Académie des Lumières. As a producer, projects he has been involved with have been presented at the Berlinale, the Locarno Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel, and the Shanghai Biennale, among other festivals and exhibitions. He currently lives and works between Paris and Beijing.
